Velocity update

Velocity is out of beta.

Wesley PittsFounder & CEO

Since our last update in June, we’ve shipped more than 500 improvements to Velocity, grown the team to five, and spent the summer making the product something you can rely on every day. Today we’re calling it: Velocity is out of beta.

Thank you. Every bug report, every call, and every property you ran through Velocity during the beta shaped what it is now.

Drop-and-Go plans now build in minutes
Before: 12 to 18 minutes18
Now: 3 to 5 minutes5
Minutes to build a Drop-and-Go plan on a 286-zone property. Before, the plan was also thrown away when you reopened it. Now it’s kept.

What “out of beta” means for you

  • Your work is protected. Version History saves named checkpoints of your map, scenarios and setup. You can preview any of them and restore it, and Velocity takes a safety copy first.

  • Faster on big properties. Heavy planning work now runs on its own service, so the app stays quick while a large plan is being built.

  • An update every Friday. Starting today, you’ll get a short note each week on what changed.

Security and reliability, led by Cesar

Cesar Gonzalez

Cesar Gonzalez joined TerraSync in August to lead Velocity engineering. He has spent more than 25 years building connected products and the software behind them, including leading IoT and software products at PetSafe and IoT engineering at Stanley Black & Decker.

Since August he has led a security and reliability program across Velocity, with more than 110 improvements of his own:

  • Stronger access controls, including limits that stop anyone from flooding the system and map images that only open for the right account.

  • Live monitoring of the app, the planning engine and the servers behind them, so problems surface on our side first.

  • Big plans run on their own dedicated service, so the rest of Velocity stays fast while they work.

  • A maintenance mode that pauses changes during an upgrade, so nothing you save is caught halfway.

  • Every known security warning in Velocity’s software building blocks cleared, from 12 to 0.

He also reviews every change before it reaches you.

Five improvements worth trying this week

  1. 1. Mowing time estimates match the field.

We recalibrated time estimates against real mower data. Before, they ran 22 to 46 percent long, which could put an extra mower in a quote.

  2. 2. A rebuilt proposal PDF.

A cover with the map, a “your mowing fleet” table, a page per mower and a “what it costs to own” section, with a live preview before you export.

  3. 3. Version History.

Name a checkpoint, preview it, and restore it safely.

Velocity Version History: a named checkpoint opened, with its map preview and Restore map (demo data)
  4. 4. Folders inside folders, and multi-site proposals.

Share a folder and your teammate gets every project inside it. Teams accounts can build one proposal across every property in a folder.

  5. 5. Faster Drop-and-Go plans.

One run plans the whole Voyager fleet. On a 286-zone property, planning went from 12 to 18 minutes to under 5, and the plan is kept when you reopen it.

A Velocity Drop-and-Go plan: three Voyager mowers scheduled across the week, with each mower's zones for Monday (demo data)

Coming the next three Fridays

  1. Every new feature.

The complete tour of what changed since June, grouped so it’s easy to scan.

  2. Pricing.

Velocity’s standard pricing and what changes for beta customers. If you’re a beta customer, you’ll have an option to keep your current price.

  3. Where Velocity is going.

Running your fleet after the sale, the Managed Properties beta, and how to put your properties forward for it.
